TESTIMONIALS

Tim Kiser
34, Corporate Attorney
“I started training June of 2010.  I started training BJJ because I was bored with my normal workout routine; I usually just lifted and did some cardio, so I wanted to try something new.  I enjoy a good workout and learning new things and the workouts here get pretty intense so it can be a good stress reliever.  I’ve become more health conscious, I’ve gained some muscle and I think I’ve got in better shape, I’ve started thinking about more how to take care of my fitness in general.  Definitely stop in and try a few classes, everyone here is nice, knowledgeable, and they encourage you.  Don’t be shy, stop down.”

Jason Newing
30, Graphic Artist
“I became interested because I’m a fan of MMA.  It’s a great workout, it’s a great environment here specifically, and I really like the structure.  It’s helped me be more physically fit, and more focused.  Just come in and give it a shot.”

Daniel Tucker
25, Mechanical Engineer
“I started training at Baltimore BJJ in June of 2010.  I used to train somewhere else, but I moved to Baltimore for work and I came and took a trial class and liked it so I signed up here.  I like the environment, the group of people here and the overall atmosphere.  Training keeps me in shape, gives me more confidence, and gives me something to do.  Definitely try it, it’s a lot of fun, you’ll learn a lot it valuable stuff that could possibly save your life.  I’ve had a lot of fun here, it’s been good.”

Lee Synkowski

Owner, Head Instructor

Thank you for checking out our page, I care very strongly about teaching and training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I hope to share this enthusiasm with you, and help develop your skills. Growing up in Baltimore I was always interested in martial arts, and finally got the chance to study Kenpo Karate in high school, where I earned my 1st degree Brown Belt training with Jim Frederick. I attended the US Coast Guard Academy, where I helped to start and instruct a martial arts club for three years, and I earned my Black Belt in Tang Soo Do. I graduated from the academy in 2000 and spent 2 years in northern Michigan working on an icebreaking ship.

When I was stationed in Washington DC in the Coast Guard, I was strongly missing martial arts, so I began training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu had all of the things I always wanted from the martial arts, and I trained, studied the art, and competed as much as possible. I always wanted to run a school in the Baltimore area, and I am happy to help bring BJJ to my hometown of Baltimore County.

Currently I am a Brown Belt in BJJ under Phil Migliarese, who is a second degree blackbelt under Relson Gracie. I also earned a 2ND Degree Brown Belt in Judo from the US Judo Federation.  Over the years I have racked up over 140 match wins in Brazilian jiu jitsu, submission grappling, mixed martial arts and judo. Highlights include multiple first place finishes in North American Grappling Association (NAGA), Grapplers Quest, and US Grappling events; defeating a member of the Gracie family at the World Championships, going undefeated in MMA, winning medals in International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation Events, and winning at the professional grappling level. I still compete, but I am equally focused on the success of my team.

Please Email Us with Questions

If you do have questions or would like to set up a time to come in, please email us at info@baltimorebjj.com. Over the years we have learned that the best way for us to get back with you is via email. We could hire a receptionist and play phone tag trying to get in touch with you, but that is inefficient, and will add to your overall cost of training. It is much simpler and more cost effective to answer your questions via email. You can get a lot of information about the school from our videos as well. You are also welcome to come in to observe any scheduled class and we can answer your questions in person

Please be sure to submit your questions with an accurate return email address. Your return message will come from info@baltimorebjj.com, so please check your junk mail folder.
