Lee Synkowski - Black Belt, OWNER

Lee Synkowski founded Baltimore Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2005, and holds a 2nd degree black belt under Phil Migliarese.  He holds over 150 combined competition match wins in bjj, sub grappling, judo, and MMA. Lee has taught martial arts for over 20 years, and he takes great pride in ensuring all Baltimore BJJ students have the chance to reach their highest potential.

Monroe Hall - Black Belt, HEAD INSTRUCTOR

Monroe Hall is one of the most sought after coaches in MD. He is a two time pan American champion and one time runner up. Monroe, who has been competing in Jiu Jitsu and MMA for over a decade, prides himself on his ability to coach and has already produced one world champion. With his recent team merger to Baltimore BJJ, he believes it is the first of many.

Brian Shealey - Black Belt

Brian Shealey holds a black belt in BJJ under Lee Synkowski. He has been with Baltimore BJJ for 8 years and has spent time training at Nashville MMA with Shawn Hammonds. He is a two time No Gi Pan Ams Medalist.

Shimon Kafka - Black Belt

Shimon is a seasoned martial arts competitor, amassing medals in tournaments large and small, including world's. He holds a black belt in Jiu Jitsu and a brown belt in Judo.

Josh WEinstock - Brown Belt

Josh Weinstock was born in Baltimore, Maryland and has been involved in grappling and martial arts for over 20 years. He started BJJ in 2006 and holds the rank of brown belt.

Rob Sullivan - BROWN Belt

Rob Sullivan became a professional mixed martial artist in 2012. Undefeated as an amateur his journey started in wrestling at the age of eleven. He turned to BJJ in his mid twenties and is currently a Purple Belt. As a successful wrestler he furthered his base with Greco-Roman and Freestyle wrestling. He has traveled the world gaining  knowledge in Dutch Muay Thai in Holland with Fred Royers. He has also trained at Minnesota Martial Arts under Greg Nelson and Tristar Gym. He took silver in the 2014 No-Gi IBFJJ Pan Ams. He also has experience as an amateur boxer.


Jose Lopez - Brown Belt

Jose grew up in Baltimore City and has been training at Baltimore BJJ since 2009. He holds the rank of Brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Lee Synkowski. Jose also believes that martial science brings mind, body and spirit together.

Jason Newing - BROWN Belt

Jason has been training since 2009. His experience also includes multiple BJJ competitions and amateur MMA & Boxing matches.

He is also trained in lightsaber combat and is a two time Saber Legion exotics division national champion.

Neal Williams - Brown Belt

Neal began his training in Japan at the legendary Paraestra Hakata school. He has a background in Aikido and holds a brown in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Sara Rowe - Purple Belt

Sara grew up studying Tae Kwon Do and earned her second degree black belt. After leaving her hometown for college, she trained with the martial arts club and learned a lot from other practitioners versed in other styles. Sara started training with Baltimore BJJ in 2008 but ended up taking a long break. She returned at the beginning of 2011 and has been training steadily since, earning her purple belt.





Born and raised in the Baltimore area,

Steven has been training in Brazilian jiu jitsu since 2010

and instructing kids since 2014.

He has competed in a multitude of local tournaments,

but gets the most fulfillment from sharing his passion for jiu jitsu

with the youth.  He currently holds the rank of purple belt
